NEW BEDFORD — Three important projects are expected to bring dramatic change to New Bedford’s working waterfront and the Whaling City Golf Course, each with the potential to shape the city’s economic future.
New Bedford Light columnist Jack Spillane hosted a special one-on-one session of The Chat with New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell on Wednesday.
The topic was mega-development in New Bedford, and the discussion centered on the following three projects:
- A $27.3 million contract to expand the North Terminal for both wind and fishing industry use has been awarded to D.W. White Construction of Acushnet.
- Local investors and Foss Marine of Seattle have closed a $13.6 million deal for a new wind turbine staging area at the site of the former Cannon Street power plant.
- The City Council Property Committee has given preliminary approval for the administration to take RFPs for the sale of 100 acres at the Whaling City Golf Course for a new industrial park.
Throughout 2022, The Chat will feature topical conversations about important issues facing our city — from climate change to charter schools to health care equity and more.
