NEW BEDFORD WHALING MUSEUM

First Fridays: Brass, sass and serious fun

The New Bedford Whaling Museum will host First Fridays on Friday, Sept. 4. Doors open at 5 p.m., with live music by The Catnip Junkies beginning at 6 p.m. in the Harbor View Gallery.

The New Orleans-inspired band mixes pop covers, Tin Pan Alley classics, and traditional jazz with brass, humor, and high energy.

Guests will have access to the museum galleries, a cash bar and complimentary light bites.

Tickets are $25 for the public and $12.50 for museum members. Reserved tables for six are also available.

Star Wars: Episode IV โ€” A New Hope

New Bedford Art Museum will screen Star Wars: Episode IV โ€” A New Hope on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m.

The free event includes a discussion before and after the film led by Dr. Mocha J. Herrup, a senior lecturer in Suffolk Universityโ€™s Communications, Journalism, and Media Department, award-winning filmmaker, and film festival programmer.

New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park offers free weekly walking tours through Oct. 11, 2026. Participants meet a ranger or volunteer inside the visitor center or in the garden.

Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.
Learn about whalesโ€™ size, adaptations, communication, and migration, along with their connections to New Bedfordโ€™s history and global industries.

Whaling in New Bedford
Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m.
Explore New Bedfordโ€™s history as a major whaling port and its connections to the global maritime economy, industry, and commerce.

The Visitor Centerโ€™s main entrance is at the top of the front steps on William Street. An accessible entrance is available through the Visitor Center Garden on the right side of the building.

Escape the Box Comedy Night

Escape the Box Comedy Night at Lighthouse Tavern is on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. Doors open at 6 p.m.
