Lack of election candidates points to bigger problem
The excellent article on the dearth of candidates underlines a significant problem in many parts of our country and most especially New Bedford. The fact that we have candidates running who are contemptuous of the rules and running unopposed is frightening and indicates a much more serious issue.
Apathy is creeping into our society in too many areas. The percentage of registered voters going to the polls is embarrassing for a democracy. Vocal minorities are able to influence results without being held accountable. Persuading people to participate is critical to encouraging new approaches.
Too many voices, especially amongst the youth, believe politics is a dirty business and to be avoided. Hopefully we can change this. Please continue to emphasize this.
Thank you for your efforts to underline “what is going on, what is not going on, and what should be going on.”

Could DPT vaccine mandate offer a model?
Good, but sad, story today in the NBL on COVID and the lack of vaccination and the unnecessary deaths and waste of nursing and hospital resources caused thereby.
The U.S. mandates that every baby gets a DPT shot to protect against the ravaging illnesses of childhood. Why can’t we do the same for adults and teens to protect their lives and ours?
