New Bedford Science Café

The New Bedford Science Café meets Tuesday, May 5, 6–8 p.m. at The Last Round Bar & Grille, 908 Purchase St., New Bedford.
David Robinson, director and chief archaeologist of the Massachusetts Board of Underwater Archaeological Resources, will speak. His talk is titled “The Surprise Discovery of Revolutionary War Shipwrecks in New Bedford Harbor.”
Cleanup efforts in 2009 and 2016 uncovered two burned schooners dating to the Revolutionary War. Robinson believes these vessels were part of about 70 destroyed during the British attack on Sept. 5-6, 1778.
Robinson has studied more than 50 shipwrecks and will explain how these finds changed detection methods. Free parking is available behind the building.
