Improvisational jazz at The Shepherd Center

Hum, a new quartet, will perform Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at The Shepherd Center. Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door.
The group features Nina Ott on organ and synthesizers, Steve Fell on guitar, John McKenna on saxophone and synthesizers, and Chris Lopes on drums and percussion.
Their sound is rooted in jazz. Performances mix original pieces with improvisation, including music by Thelonious Monk.
Electronic and acoustic sounds blend throughout. McKenna also uses playable sculptures he has built, adding a visual element.
The group recently performed on WGBH’s JazzNow before a live audience.
