Elida Almeida at Zeiterion

Cape Verdean singer Elida Almeida will perform at Zeiterion on Thursday, July 2, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $29 to $49 plus fees.

Almeida gained international attention in 2014 with a breakout hit that drew millions of views online. Her singing blends strength and warmth, carrying Cape Verdean music to worldwide audiences. Performances mix traditional styles such as batuque, funaná, coladeira, and tabanka with Latin influences.

Almeida was born on the island of Santiago and began singing in church. She later hosted a radio show in Maio.

Her debut album, “Nta Konsigui,” brought wider recognition, including a feature in a Portuguese television series. She won the RFI Découvertes prize in 2015 and has since performed across Europe, Africa, and North America.

Later albums, including “Kebrada” and “Gerasonobu,” accentuate her African identity and connection to her roots. Her fifth album, “Di Lonji,” denotes a decade in music and traces her path from Santiago to stages in more than 50 countries.
