Thousands gathered where they could be seen: on bridges, in parks, and at intersections across the South Coast as part of “No Kings Day” – a nationwide protest to oppose what organizers described as an erosion of American democracy under the Trump administration.

Eight local protests took place on Saturday from New Bedford and Dartmouth to Mattapoisett, Westport and Fall River –  each part of the national wave of resistance that included more than 2,600 demonstrations in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., including 154 in Massachusetts alone, according to We (the People) Dissent, a group that tracks grassroots mobilization.

No Kings protests also took place outside the U.S., with demonstrators showing solidarity by holding anti-facism and anti-dictatorship signs in front of American embassies in Berlin, Rome, Paris, Stockholm, and Madrid.

“It couldn’t have gone better. People came out in force — for democracy, and for the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Wendy Lawton, co-leader of Indivisible South Coast New England, local chapter of the national movement. “It was really joyful. I saw moms with kids, dogs, and students all showing up.”

“There were also a lot of inflatable crabs and lobsters,” laughed Lawton. “Very New England style.”

In New Bedford, about 1,200 participated in two protests held from noon to 2 p.m., one on the pedestrian bridge over Purchase Street and the other at Buttonwood Park.

In Dartmouth, about 400 people gathered at the intersection of Route 6 and Faunce Corner Road for a protest organized by the town’s Democratic Committee.

In Mattapoisett, a rally and march that began at noon at the corner of North Street and Route 6 attracted about 300 people.

Dartmouth

In Dartmouth, the protest took off later than expected, but a few protesters showed up nearly an hour early — staking out spots with folding chairs along Faunce Corner Road, armed with canvas signs and cardboard placards. Among them was Eusie Zane, a 93-year-old New Bedford resident, who proudly taped signs to her car parked beside the road, steadying herself with a walker as she worked. “Supreme Court, shame on you,” one sign read. “Goodbye, democracy,” said another.

“This is my way of protesting,” said Zane, who explained that she designed the signs herself and then went to Staples to have them printed. “I’ve always been politically aware. I mean, I was born during the Second World War.”

She said she feels disgusted by the Trump administration.

“Every morning I wake up and I wonder how the country will go through another day with this man.”

James Griffith, chairperson of the Dartmouth Democratic Town Committee — the group behind the demonstration in Dartmouth — said he believes the integrity of the republic is at risk. “We are devastating the infrastructure of the entire country, from weather reporting to everything you can think of,” he said.

Griffith also mentioned hearing alarming rumors about possible disruptions planned by supporters of the Trump administration. “Thankfully, the Dartmouth police are here. They have two cruisers,” he said. “I’m not concerned, but I just want to be prepared.”

New Bedford

At Buttonwood Park, the protest stretched along Rockdale Avenue. By around 1:30 p.m., the crowd had grown to at least 1,000 people. Demonstrators in costumes danced along the curb, waving at passing cars as drivers honked in support.

Kristy Acevedo, a Fairhaven resident dressed as Princess Leia, held a sign that read, “The Force is with us.” She said she was inspired by the creativity of the Portland protests. “When I saw all the silly frogs there, I thought, okay, it’s time to bring the fun.”

This wasn’t her first protest, it was her third, she said. “Every time I go home, I feel more inspired and more hopeful.”

Erin and Taylor Patterson — mother and daughter, both dressed in “No Kings” symbolic yellow — are the founders of Democracy Unleashed, the local organization behind the Buttonwood Park protest. They stood side by side waving, stunned by the size of the crowd.

“Today has been remarkable,” said Taylor. “We can really see people starting to think things through. It really brought our spirits up.”

The Pattersons organized the first No Kings protest in June at Hazelwood Park in New Bedford, but they said Saturday’s event felt different.

“The energy, the amount of people who have shown support and turned out today — it’s not comparable,” Taylor said. She believes the turnout more than doubled since the June protest.

The protest remained peaceful, with only occasional booing when Trump supporters drove by waving flags. One counter-protester, Jeff Taylor, of Dartmouth, stood across the street, flashing a middle finger toward the crowd.

“I came down here just to watch and see what was going on,” he said. “This country is a free country, and we have freedom of speech. We have the freedom to disagree.”

Taylor said he found the demonstrators’ messages scattered and believes President Trump is doing a good job and delivering on what he was elected to do.

“It’s my place to tell them where I believe they’re wrong,” he said, pointing at the protesters across the street.

About two miles away, on the New Bedford pedestrian overpass above Route 18, about 200 protesters held their signs against the wind and shouted over the hum of traffic below.

“Vibes were good,” said Craig Swallow, co-leader of the ISCNE and a New Bedford resident. “There were lots of positive responses and things went off really well.”

Swallow said two counterprotesters showed up as well but there were no notable confrontations.

“We thanked them for expressing themselves as is their First Amendment right,” he said. “We let them do their thing and they let us do ours.”

He added that he saw the day’s events as a pivotal moment.

“The working class is being energized by what they’re seeing from this administration,” he said. “I think people are tired of feeling as if their voices aren’t being heard and this is one of the ways we can demonstrate that.

Mattapoisett

Around 300 people had gathered at the intersection of Route 6 and North Street in Mattapoisett in the hour before the scheduled noon start time. It was the first No Kings demonstration in the town.

Among those in attendance was the Portland Frog. It became a symbol for opposition to the Trump administration after a video went viral of a federal agent spraying pepper spray into the air vent of a costume worn by Seth Todd on Oct. 2, in Portland, Oregon. The outfit has come to highlight the contradiction between the protesters and the militarized tactics of federal police authorities in recent months.

“The Portland Frog is such an amazing symbol against what is happening in this country,” said Ann Richard, the demonstrator from Fairhaven wearing the costume. “It’s kind of just a fun way to say: I’m a pacifist.”

A long-time activist, Richard has been demonstrating locally against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations that have detained about 60 people in the Greater New Bedford area since January.  On Sept. 19, she confronted ICE agents during an operation in Fairhaven that resulted in the detention of three Guatemalan men. Among them was Luís David Ajtzac Osório, an 18-year old Special Immigrant Juvenile still in custody at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility after an immigration judge terminated his removal proceedings Thursday.

“I’m a troublemaker,” Richard said with a laugh.

Honking horns made conversation difficult at times as a steady stream of motorists showed their support to the demonstrators. No counterprotesters were present but a small number of passing motorists shook their heads in disapproval and some gave the thumbs down sign.

“Everybody in the U.S. should be against dictatorship and authoritarianism,” said Nicki Demakis, organizer of the demonstration and chair of the Mattapoisett Democratic Committee. “Everything that’s happening in the last 10 months of this administration is moving toward authoritarianism.”

“We are the firewall here.”

The demonstrators walked to Shipyard Park after about an hour and they heard a series of speakers galvanize the crowd to greater action, including suggestions to volunteer and donate to progressive causes.

Speakers repeatedly reminded the crowd that no one would come to their aid but themselves.

“We are the solution!” said Andy Pollock, a member of the Allens Neck Friends Meeting in Dartmouth and executive director of the SouthCoast LGBTQ+ Network. “Stand up and move forward!”

“Reclaim morality! Reclaim the heart of our nation!”

The No Kings movement was first launched on June 14, in response to a military parade held in Washington, D.C., on the same day as President Trump’s 79th birthday. That initial round of protests drew estimated crowds of at least four million people nationwide, according to organizers, with coordinated demonstrations also taking place in several European countries.

On the South Coast, more than a thousand people joined that day’s protests, gathering at Hazelwood Park in New Bedford and outside the high school in Fairhaven.

Organizers said they expected larger turnouts this time compared to the June events. Saturday’s actions just about doubled that number and spread across eight communities.

The latest No Kings events were organized and promoted by a coalition of groups, including 50501, Democracy Unleashed, and the Democratic Town Committees of Dartmouth, Mattapoisett, Rochester, Fairhaven, and Westport.

There were no reports of incidents at any of the South Coast events. Police were present at several locations but did not intervene, and the demonstrations remained peaceful throughout the day.

Additional events tied to the No Kings movement are expected in the coming months, as the 2026 midterm election season begins to take shape.

After checking in with fellow organizers across the South Coast, Lawton said Saturday’s No Kings protest likely drew twice as many participants as the one held in June.

Lawton said she was glad to see that the mood carried both deep humor and deep seriousness. Many in the crowd were first-time protesters, she noted, a sign of growing concern and engagement.

“Many told me they decided to come because they’re worried about the situation,” she said. “But that just being out among others who share their concerns and views made them feel less alone.”

  1. I cannot believe you allowed the conspiracy touting guy from Dartmouth to speak for so long. Communists sowing dissent? It was fine until it got to that point. My opinion.

  2. That’s enough already. Apparently these protests aren’t making the president change things. It’s becoming a waste of time, and it’s becoming disruptive for people who live near the protest locations.

    1. Sorry the protests are disrupting one Saturday afternoon every few months for you. Use that time to reflect on our immigrant neighbors living in fear of being abducted by ICE every single minute of every day since January.

    2. None of us have any expectation of the administration altering course based on protests. It’s about reminding this country and the world that there is still a loyal opposition to our government(perhaps more loyal in that our loyalty is to the constitution, not simply a man and party). I think we need to be doing more of these, regardless of what the neighbors might think.

      1. A vulgar video the president created in response to peaceful protests is proof the government isn’t working for the people. Now a ballroom, money to Argentina while our citizens can’t get decent healthcare and the military & ICE are asked to control and arrest citizens. Demonstrate or live in a country where freedom doesn’t exist. The playbook isn’t new. Know history!

        1. Westport,
Did you read the whole story, not one dime is being used for that Ballroom.
Who says you can’t get decent fmhealthcare my wife and I have a great healthcare plan, Delta Dental, an life insurance, it’s all part of our total compensation package that includes salary, each of us has paid sick leave, six weeks vacation time, a we each have a great pension. pension, together with my 401k, her 403b tax free contributions, and a company match. You just have to get a job with a good job with a good company.

    3. Protests are supposed to be disruptive. When American citizens are being attacked by a masked secret police force, there is a problem

    4. J,
Did you, or anyone else think you were going to change anything with these “No Kings” protests? The number of protestors could be changed to 100 Million for every Saturday, Sunday, and holiday for four years with you all screaming as loud as you like for hours, and nothing would change.
President Trump was elected to lead the United States for four years in November 2024, then sworn in on inauguration day on January 20, 2025, and all the protesting, complaining, and whining about it won’t change a thing.
So do yourself a favor, sit back, relax, and enjoy all the great things that will take place over the next four years led by President Trump, and the great administration he selected to get everything done.

      1. The fact is….he’s coming for you next. Don’t kid yourself. Unless you’re an oligarch, Trump has no use for you.

      2. The protests are changing things.
        Protest ended the Vietnam War.
        Gave us desegregation.
        The woman’s right to vote.
        Blacks too, most of them.
What has happened to all the wonderful people Trump selected in his first term?
How many have turned on him?
How many from this term will?

    5. That’s ok, it makes them feel like they’re making a difference, but they’re not. President Trump campaigned for a year on the premise that he’d deport every illegal immigrant and that’s exactly what he’s doing, the sad part is that these protestors are siding with the criminals while protesting physically, and verbally against law enforcement (I.C.E.) for doing their duty as they swore an oath to do.

  3. Many are reacting to the prospect of having our own military confronting fellow citizens in our streets. Protestors are not the “enemy within” or “terrorists” or “criminals” or “antifa”, as this and many other articles prove. They are exercising their First Amemdment rights under our Constitution.

One of the first things this administration did after taking office was to fire the Pentagon Justice Advocate Generals, the officers who advise the Pentagon officers about whether or not a military policy or action is lawful under our Constitution.

Our leaders take an oath to protect and defend our Constitution. They should want military advisers who are legal experts in constitutional law advising them. So….why oh why did this administration prioritize firing these legal advisors to our Pentagon generals and admirals?

Several months later, we are finding out why. Our Secretary of Defense and our President are telling us why by saying the new mission of our military is to be more aggressive and to confront the “enemy within” with references to groups that oppose this administrations policies.

When people show you who they are, believe them.

    1. Unfortunately, I agree with you that the current administration does not welcome any opposition to our current Secretary of “War” thoughts or opinions even though he has little or no educational or experientable background to lead this critical department.

  4. I’d like to know exactly what freedoms these protestors have lost in the past 7 months? Please let me know because I feel like I’m in the dark.
Did you enjoy the four years that Biden was the “President”? He was so bad a tripping over his own words that his aides pulled him away before he could answer it, is that the kind of leadership in Washington DC? Trump has been in office for 7 months now, there’s not one President in the past 40 years who has accomplished more, and he’s just getting started.
Do you want your daughters competing against biological males? I don’t.
Did you want to wait until Iran had a nuclear weapon that would almost certainly begin World War 3? I don’t.
Do you enjoy paying more state, federal, and local taxes?
Those are just three things that will happen if, and when the next Democrat is elected President, and that’s going to be one extremely ugly nation to live in.

    1. what freedoms these protestors have lost in the past 7 months?
I have many legal immigrant friends who have lost the freedom to move about this country without fear. I worry NSPM-7 is going to lead to my communications being monitored for “anti-American” or “anti-capitalist” language.

Did you enjoy the four years that Biden was the “President”? No. I blame Biden’s hubris for getting us where we are today. I can both think Biden was a terrible president and think Trump is a terrible president.

Trump has been in office for 7 months now, there’s not one President in the past 40 years who has accomplished more, and he’s just getting started.

      Prove it.

Do you want your daughters competing against biological males?

I do not care and I seriously doubt my daughter will ever encounter this. If she does, I’ll remind her it’s just a sport and the point is to give it your all and enjoy the game, not what’s in the other kids underwear. Weird you’re thinking about this.

Did you want to wait until Iran had a nuclear weapon that would almost certainly begin World War 3?

Prove to me that Trump’s strike actually setback the Iranian program. If anything, making an unprovoked strike on a hostile nation brings us closer to WW3. We should not be fighting Israel’s war for them.

Do you enjoy paying more state, federal, and local taxes?

Trumps tariffs have increased prices all over. My grocery bill has almost doubled since January. I would gladly pay more in taxes and get something from it than line the pockets of corporations who are price gouging.

      1. You actually make sense! How refreshing with the electoral knowledge of good ole NB! I’m with you

      2. Well, fortunately, you’re thoughts and views are on the losing side, as of today, 515,000 illegal immigrants have been deported, or are in the process, and this is just the beginning with another 10 to 12 million to go, I’m looking forward to it.
Regardless of whether you like him or not, Trump is getting things done that a large majority of tax papers have wanted for 25+ years, and America will be a much better place when he’s finished.
Most of us middle class and wealthy residents are tired of paying for healthcare, SNAP, Section 8 housing, WIC, and housing projects, and fortunately those services are being but, and eventually, they’ll be eliminated.
Men and women shouldn’t have to go to work everyday to support anyone else except their own families, and that’s a major change developing in the next 5-10 years.
That sickening cry for affordable housing will also fade away, the only result of more affordable available is more low income residents, and there’s no benefit in that for anyone.
The Medicaid/Masshealth mandates already signed into law will finally make able bodied adults between the ages of 18-64 without children under 18 will finally make people get a job and work 20 hours per week, or they’ll have to perform community service for 20 hours per week with $0 paid or they won’t be eligible for the benefit, and it’s about time that change has come! The 50% of people who work to pay their own bills and support their own families should never have to pay to support others.

        1. Work requirement make it required to work to get a benefit. They don’t create jobs for people to get. Trump’s tariffs have led to job market stagnation, so there’s fewer jobs, especially fewer entry-level jobs like those people on assistance programs would need. So we kick people off Medicaid, SNAP, WIC and Section 8. What happens to those people? Isn’t it a fundamental role of government to promote society’s general welfare? Doesn’t having our (I use to plural here because it’s clear you haven’t worked minimum wage and tried to pay the bills in a LONG time) less fortunate neighbors housed and feed give them more of an opportunity to rise up in the world, save to buy a home or a care, and support healthy children so they can learn and contribute to society?

          1. I never said work requirements created jobs, I’m 100% in favor of able bodied people working part time, or performing community service to earn those benefits. I guess you haven’t noticed, but there have been “help wanted” signs posted on the doors of more than half of the convenience stores, fast food restaurants, delivery drivers at pizza shops, etc. for the past 3 or 4 years, and the only reason why able bodied people don’t work those jobs, or volunteer 20 hours per week in exchange for the benefits they’ve received for 5, 10, 20+ years at the expense of the tax payers, and the liberal socialist Governor Healy hasn’t required it.
Somehow you think you know me, my education level, the jobs I’ve worked, the wages I’ve earned over the past 38 years, and my net worth based on a couple comments I posted here, but you have no clue.
Based on your comments, you must be 100% in favor of the $1 Billion+ MA State tax dollars Healy wasted on every illegal immigrant, and the multiple billions Biden and Democrats have wasted on the others, but you said it, we should all be helping each other out right?
And I’ve wasted too much time sending this reply to an obvious “Tax & Spend” liberal Democrat. Enjoy yourself up here, I just retired at 59 1/2 and already bought a home in FL which has no state income tax, and legislation is being processed that will eliminate property taxes, that means no welfare, no food stamps, no section 8 housing, and more. Enjoy your taxes and fellow Democrats.

    2. You’re absolutely correct; not one president in the last forty years has done more…DESTRUCTION TO OUR COUNTRY AND THE CONSTITUTION than the convicted felon DJT. And you’re right again when you say he is just getting started. And that’s precisely why No Kings demonstrations and other manifestations of our opposition to his inhumane, unconstitutional, and self-serving actions are necessary and will become broader and deeper as the damage continues to unfold.

    3. Oh my, have you not been listening?? Trump said a few weeks ago that news agencies speaking badly about him is illegal. He posted he wants his enemies arrested. He brags about a picture of himself and Putin. He has ice targeting American citizens. Inflation is up, prices are up, govt is shut down. Trade is a mess. He has shut off approved funding for those states he doesn’t like. The military has been told they will fight the enemy within, meaning us. WTH are talking about???

    4. Masked ICE thugs in the streets.
      What has Trump accomplished?
      7 million protesters?
      70 million sympathizers?
I want my daughters to compete without regard to sex.
Russia, United States, China, France, United Kingdom, Pakistan, India
Israel, and North Korea have had nukes for decades, no WW3.
Under Trump Federal, State and Local taxes are up.
Trump has made us an ugly nation to live in.
Masked ICE thugs in the streets.

  5. In Westport, we had 720 supporters and a great reception from those driving by. We had lots of American flags because we love our country. We read the charges leveled against King George in our Declaration of Independence and realize we have another leader who wants to be king. We resisted then and we resist now.

    1. Thanks for letting the Light know, John! I was heartened to see so many Westport neighbors gathered together for a peaceful and love filled demonstration. It makes me feel more connected to my home town and the people in it. It was an amazing! I have some photos and video I’d be happy to share with you.

    2. And you’re a mayor that should have been resisted for pushing through the lemon of sewerage treatment plant on ward six residents in the South End of New Bedford.

      1. Please send the American people a refund on the social security you’re collecting if that’s how you feel.

        1. You would be supporting us if you want to keep your health care and social, as well as your freedoms. Trumps giving 40 billion of your healthcare money to Venezuela during this lovely shutdown. My ACA health insurance with Wellsense just got revoked. Thanks for that. Good luck!

      2. We need socialism. The billionaires are stealing everything from everyone, not just the libs. The foxes are in the henhouse. The happiest countries in the world have free healthcare, free school and college and protect the environment. It’s not “smart” for a society to deny its citizens these rights, it’s just the greediest of the greedy who will never be satisfied or have enough.

  6. In Wareham, we had ~800 people at our “No Kings” standout. There was singing, chanting and joy in the air! Peaceful, non-violent demonstrations is our right. We must continue to exercise that right before we lose it. Protect our freedoms and our democracy. “We the people” cannot be silenced.

  7. Went to the protest in Mattapoisett on Saturday and felt like passing cars were mostly in support of us. There was one kid flipping us the bird. I was around in the sixties and can guarantee that protesting eventually works. Keep it up America. We need to stop the orange menace—for the sake of our kids!

  8. My wife and I were at the Mattapoisett protest from 12:00 on. There were substantially more than 300 people participating. At least 600 and probably closer to 1000 folks were there from 12:00 to 1:00.

    1. Exactly, if Bernie Sanders and his running mate was AOC running for President in 2028, these far left liberals would be lining up to campaign for them, and voting for them on election day, they love those tax & spend Democrats because they pay little to no taxes at all.

        1. Bernie Sanders, a man of the people?
He’s never worked on the private sector in his life, he’s the most useless Senator in America and has never written, or passed a single piece of legislation. He preaches against fossil fuels and demands green energy, then flies across America on a private jet, and he owns 3 homes, he’s a man of the people alright, he’s one of the Oligarchs he rails against, and the only Green thing about him is his annual salary for doing nothing for America for over 45 years.

  9. Gotta love all the demonstrations and people complaining about trump, he was elected just like Biden was and every other president before them. Get over it and get on with your lives already! No kings day? Come on already it’s tiresome! Everyone voted! We are here! Let’s move forward already. Good lord

    1. Trump won 49.7% of the vote.
      He is tiresome
      65% of registered voters voted.
      We are here.
Most of the people who voted did not vote for Trump.
      It was God’s will.

  10. Where is the support and articles from New Bedford Light for the people that don’t agree with these protests ? ? ?

2,000 people is 2% of New Bedford’s Population and does not speak for all of the residents of New Bedford.

Shame on the New Bedford Light, it continues to show it Bias, and that it only supports a small percentage of the community.

      1. Come on Hank you make some good points and seem to be more level headed them some of the Kool-Aid drinkers that comment here. The Light in no way presents a fair representation of the thoughts of the residents of this area. They are 100% Bias and only produce article after article supporting the far left liberal radical agenda.

    1. The people who disagree with Trump are the majority.
      See the 2O24 election results.
The New Bedford Light has the same bias as the vast majority of New Bedford Voters.
What percentage of the New Bedford community supports Trump?
      2%?
      Less?

    2. You’ve got that right Jeff, “The New Bedford Light” is an extreme far left liberal socialist site, it can’t even be called “news” because they filter out every conservative point of view, and they have the nerve to allow comments that compare Trump & Republicans to Hitler and Nazis, it’s an absolute disgrace, and that’s my last opinion here, I’ll never read, or post a comment here again, it’s a complete waste of time, specially when comments based on facts and truth are omitted while the extreme liberal lies are posted, and cheered continuously.
Take care Jeff, don’t these liberal socialists, and defenders of illegal immigrants get the best of you.

      1. Good comment and there are many that will agree. The articles and comments here are a perfect example of what destroyed the Democrat Party. Like most I try to remain open minded and want what is best for this country and when a politician makes a mistake whether Republican, Democrat, or Far Left Liberal I will call them out. But after 10 months of this presidency only a blind person wouldn’t see that Trump has already done more than Biden ever thought of doing in his four years. In the end the New Bedford Light is just the Fake News of this area and the majority of articles and comments that are posted here are just extreme far left liberal garbage.

      2. You know, I’ve been all over this comment section for days (like you) and I don’t see one comment here comparing Trump to Hitler. Typical far right snowflake behavior. A couple thousand people show up and protest your beloved president and you start making things up.

        1. But now you did and to put that in print makes you just as bad as all the other far left radical liberals. It’s 100% disgusting and it is time to say goodbye to your credibility.

          1. Jeff, search this comment section. “Republican” is the first person to mention Hitler or Nazis. They couldn’t give me a serious response when I answered their questions earlier, just diving further and further into divisive language and far right talking points. I had enough of it. If someone wants to engage in an actual debate here, which means they may have to acknowledge that their side might have SOME things wrong, then I’m all for it. But I’m not going to stand for lies about what other people have said here just because “Republican” cannot handle that people came out to protest.

If right wingers on the Southcoast wanted to protest Biden, they should have, but I never saw that. All I saw was group of about a dozen election deniers waving Trump flags on the Fairhaven side of the bridge. Again, not protesting Biden or his policies (many of which I disagreed with), but perpetuating far-right myths about the 2020 election.

I’m not arguing that Trump didn’t win. The results were clear (plus Harris was a terrible candidate, somehow worse than Biden). But I don’t think Trump has delivered on his promises to lower prices and improve life for working class Americans – look around. Things are more expensive at the grocery store, car prices are locked and interest rate remain high, building is slowing down because of the tariffs, subprime loans are defaulting…signals of an impending recession. But sure, they’re deporting people. What does that do for you and me? It’s just grievance politics and it does nothing to make life better for the average American.

          2. Hank to your comment below, we can agree to disagree, I have complemented you on some of your comments, but than you come at me, and say I am making things up, there is not one bit of truth to that at all. I give my opinion, and I stand by it, you don’t agree with me that’s fine, but don’t say things that aren’t true, because it only makes you sound like the rest of the robotic far left radical liberal responses that get posted here.

      3. The Light fairly represents the thoughts of the residents of this area.
        34.7% voted for Trump.
        How many would today?

  11. Thank you, New Bedford Light, For covering the protests in the South Coast. It would be great if you could update your headline and the numbers. And include those from Westport and Wareham. It seems to me there were more like more than 3000 protesters. Numbers matter. Here’s to NO KINGS 3 and more!

  12. Jeff Rogers, I am in total agreement with you and disgusted that my fellow American citizens are so ignorant about civics. We as a country have laws that are to be followed, but these protesters are living in a state of delusion. I would like to know what would happen to them if they were to illegally enter a foreign country. They would be welcomed into a prison state and deported if not erased, not welcomed and placed on the dole. President Donald J. Trump was voted for presidency by the legal voting American citizens which believe in democracy. I have to believe that these demonstrators have to be paid to waste their time and display their ignorance. I cannot accept the sheer lack of logical thinking, this goes beyond delusion but yet it is vilified by legacy media across the country. The term has been coined Trump derangement syndrome, TDS for short. Does anyone think for themselves anymore? Do these protesters actually think they are going to change democracy, change American values, ways and laws? This nonsense is only perpetrated by all these informational news outlets that report this, otherwise this irrational wave of thought would not exist. The bias is in all news outlets, we don’t have to accept the ignorance. Unfortunately the protestors are within the law to protest, the media spins their ideology and ignorance is promoted whereby civics is no longer taught in the educational system. Does anyone think that they are being conditioned, molded, controlled by a greater entity than a king?

    1. The law of our land is the US Constitution. Our government is based on it. This administration has violated it since January by ignoring checks and balances between branches or our government, ignoring court orders, and ignoring individual rights under the amendments, especially the First Amendment rights of Due Process, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Speech and Assembly, etc. I find it amazing that people are blind to that. It is their own rights that they should be defending along with the rest of us.

  13. This article about the “No Kings” demonstrations on the South Coast is really striking. It locates local activism protests in New Bedford, Dartmouth, Mattapoisett and nearby towns within a broader national wave of resistance, showing how people in smaller communities are also raising their voices in defense of democracy. I especially appreciated how the article highlights both the seriousness and the creativity of the participants: from the 93-year-old neighbor who taped her own signs, to protesters in costume (Princess Leia, inflatable frogs) waving at supportive motorists. That mix of heartfelt concern and light-hearted expression gives the coverage a sense of depth and humanity.

    1. Of course, the fire extinguisher comment refers to an old children’s rhyme, “Liar, liar, pants on fire”

      https://waywordradio.org/liar-liar-pants-on-fire/

I probably should have used the following expressions instead:

“Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”

or, my favorite, which has three categories:

“You can fool all of the people all of the time
      and
Some of the people all of the time
      but
You can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

I would like to think that we will one day all be in category three.

      1. Self-correction:
You can fool all of the people SOME of the time
Some of the people ALL of the time.
But you can’t fool ALL of the people ALL of the time..

  14. I wish the Light would add a Like/Dislike button next to these comments. Just want to add that I was at the New Bedford Buttonwood Park Rally, which was peaceful and patriotic; many cars drove by honking in solidarity. And to those who still support Trump, consider for a moment how prices are not going down, but rising. Instead of using our tax dollars to make low cost health care available to all, he cuts these funds to erect a gold laminated ballroom!!!! at tax payers expense. To add more insult to taxpayers, he is suing the US Justice Dept to cover his legal costs (don’t forget our tax dollars fund the Justice Dept and this money is going into his pocket!). Has he bragged about how much wealth he has accumulated since coming into office? Disreputable doesn’t even come close to describe him. Everyday his presidency gets more outrageous.

  15. We can get through this if we pull together.

    What’s Next No Kings?

We can’t do everything but we can each do something to bring about change. Peace be with you and…

    Keep hope alive!

  16. Stop the king nonsense, many of us think our 47th President Donald J. Trump is doing a great job (so much better than Biden or Obama).
