Korie Ellis-St.Pierre: ‘I now see color in a whole new light’

Name: Korie Ellis-St.Pierre
Age: 35
Where are you from and where do you live now? I currently reside in New Bedford
Occupation: Natural Dyer
Favorite hobby: Thrifting, gardening, reorganizing spaces, lots of cooking, making a mess.
Describe your style for us. My style is rooted in comfort and functionality with a heavy dose of natural fibers and pieces that make me feel good to be in my body. As I’ve aged, and explored working with natural dyes, I now see color in a whole new light.
Earthy tones provide me grounding when I need them, vibrant tones are a fun way to make myself feel uplifted, having a standout moment. Also, the structure of the pieces has become really important to me.
For a petite person, I have really long limbs and broad shoulders … which can make certain tops be a bit of a nightmare to pull off. I’ve found that structured pieces and denim work really well and allow me to play with layering in a way that aligns with how my body naturally has manifested over time.
What are you wearing? I’m wearing a thrifted Levi’s turtleneck (comfort), a thrifted cotton light sweater (color), a hand-knitted crop sweater (made by my mother in law Nicole St. Pierre), thrifted Madewell denim that I naturally dyed with Myrobalan, a thrifted L.L.Bean jacket (thank you piff), cotton socks that I naturally dyed, and thrifted, transparent converse sneakers. My accessories are thrifted, except for my beloved earrings which were handmade by Harmony Winters.
What articles of clothing do you repeatedly wear? I’m currently reaching for a lot of denim and layering pieces since it’s winter, but we live in New England so you just never know what you’ll get. I have a salvage pair of denim jeans that I bought from MadLila that are the perfect dark wash and just a bit baggy, while fitting properly on my waist. They go with pretty much anything and limit my decision fatigue which is really nice … haha.
How does your style fit into your way of life? Being a natural dyer (messy), mom of three young boys (active), and in my mid 30’s (better sense of self), I like to dress in ways that I feel put together, expressive, but can also move around freely and not have to be so cautious about my pieces. There’s a lot of sneakers paired with sweaters made of natural fibers being worn.
What’s your favorite season for fashion and why? My favorite season is spring, even though I personally feel it’s the shortest season (weatherwise). The energy of the sun shining once again allows me to pull pieces from my closet that I haven’t seen since the year before, while still incorporating some warmer layers that I know and absolutely love. My style has a lot to do with my sense of self at the moment, the way I feel, my energy, and how well I’m caring for myself. I find spring to invite the best parts of me to come out.
Who are your primary influences when it comes to fashion/style? I really love looking at older women who are in the stage of giving zero care about how they are perceived and more care around if they are expressing themselves authentically. I find older women who care about their style, take time to piece their outfits together, and have the confidence to make art out of their lives incredibly energizing. Since style and emotions are so interconnected for me, I want to be influenced by those who have a grounded understanding of who they are, and the courage to show the world who that really is.

Victoria Cosmo: ‘Every day is an opportunity to step into a new feeling.’
A note from Andrew Kepinski on this photo shoot: This Street Style was a little different from the norm. When I arrived to meet Victoria, she welcomed me into her home from the bitter New England cold to show me her well-curated walk-in closet. The walls were lined with garments, and it resembled a vintage boutique.
It was immediately clear Victoria’s passion for clothing was more than just a trend. The majority of her wardrobe seemed to be thrifted from all different eras, with each seeming to tell a different story. The space inspired me to snap a few pics of Victoria immersed in her world before venturing back outside for the more conventional Street Style shoot.

Name: Victoria Cosmo
Age: 24
Where are you from and where do you live now? I grew up in Florida and relocated to Massachusetts. I now live in New Bedford.
Occupation: Bartender
Favorite hobby: Movies, movies, movies. A perfect day is spent in fresh sheets watching back-to-back five-star films. I enjoy reading and writing when I’m feeling more productive, though no matter what I’m doing, there is always music playing.
Describe your style for us: Explorative. Every day is an opportunity to step into a new feeling. I use clothing as a grounding ritual — a way to check in with my body and honor the version of myself I want to express that day.
What are you wearing? A Ruth Originals mini dress thrifted from Antiques at the Cove, white tights, Circus platform heels thrifted from Savers, a mink hat thrifted from Circa, and a fur and leather coat thrifted from Circa
What articles of clothing do you repeatedly wear? Mini anything and heels. I’m 5-foot, and find more excitement in silhouettes that make me look more proportional while also pulling from other decades.
How does your style fit into your way of life? Truthfully, my style has never been practical, but I dislike doing things for the sake of logic, so it’s at least cohesive with my personality. From hunting for a piece that lights me up to curating a feeling or an outfit, the process of style is the foundation of my life, and I mold around it.
What’s your favorite season for fashion and why? Fall and winter give me more flexibility to play around. As someone who overheats easily, I detest summer.
Who are your primary influences when it comes to fashion/style? Life. It’s a privilege to have as much access as we do to experience other people’s art. This is what inspires me most — to step into the worlds and minds of musicians, dancers, cinematographers, creative directors, stylists, writers, and designers. It’s endless, and everything and everyone exists in a quiet conversation with the fundamental feelings of living.
There is boundless fun to be had in something as trivial as getting dressed for the day. Inspiration spanning decades and pulling from all kinds of bravery — from the flappers of the 1920s to the bold androgyny of the 1980s — reminds me that clothing is never just clothing. Expression can be a rebellious tool to uplift and inspire, to make a political statement, or to overcome an insecurity. It is my version of dress-up and make-believe, and my favorite way to tap into it.

Liv Dunks: ‘I try to wear a feeling and accessorize the hell out of it.’

Name: Liv Dunks
Age: Old enough
Where are you from and where do you live now? From Bermuda, currently living in South Dartmouth
Occupation: Musician, writer, poet, dreamer, emotional philanthropist
Favorite hobby: Cooking and eating
Describe your style for us.
Skatepark mob wife
What are you wearing?
I try to wear a feeling and accessorize the hell out of it. When I’m going out, I like to wear something that feels laid back and powerful. I’m a believer of the philosophy “look good feel good.”
I like to drag my feet around in my platform Docs. I’m grounded by their weight. Socks are a fun and sometimes ignored way to put some flare in a fit. I found these green flames at Vans.
Good jeans make a difference in any look. The skirt I’m flirting with is from MOTHER Denim. They have really fun stuff.
My little shirt from O’Neil is a cute gift from my Mitch. We were in Martha’s Vineyard this summer and he said to me, “you gotta have this shirt.” It matches half my wardrobe, so he was totally right.
The jacket was a Christmas gift from my mom that I wore to a Ty Segall show in April and he said it was cool, so I call this jacket the Ty Segall Likes My Jacket jacket.
What articles of clothing do you repeatedly wear?
All my jewelry. I feel very odd and naked without it.
How does your style fit into your way of life? I try to keep it fun and playing with aesthetics is fun. We only have so many days on this Earth so why not play around?
What’s your favorite season for fashion and why? I love layers and coats. The more patterns and colors and textures I can wear the better, so I have a sweet spot for fall and spring.
Who are your primary influences when it comes to fashion/style? I lived in New York City for 10 years and got so much inspiration from the people on the street. Also, I go to a lot of shows and buy a lot of merch from bands, and so half of my style is band tees.

Abdourahmane ‘Caliph’ Doumbouya: ‘There’s a subtle West African influence in everything I do’
Editor’s note: After a brief hiatus from shooting Street Style, Andrew Kapinsky decided to hone his skills on shooting film and being more deliberate with each photo taken. “On this photoshoot with Caliph I shot with my Hasselblad 501cm,” said Kapinsky. “This particular camera only gets 12 frames per roll, but the giant 6×6 negatives lead to high quality beautiful textures and tones.
“With each click of the shutter the loud ‘whomf’ sound makes each frame feel like it’s going to be a masterpiece even when the resulting photo doesn’t live up to the hype. Living in such a digital world, analog keeps me present and reminds me why I fell in love with photography.”

Full Name: Abdourahmane “Caliph” Doumbouya
Age: 36
Where are you from and where do you live now? I was born in Dakar, Senegal, and I grew up in New Bedford but I’m currently living in Los Angeles.
Occupation: Music artist, web designer / developer, creative director, fashion designer
Favorite hobby: My hobbies are the things that I do professionally and that’s making music, designing clothes, designing and developing websites and apps and making brands come to life through creative direction.
Describe your style for us. My style is a blend of streetwear, casual clothes and colors that pop. There’s a subtle West African influence in everything I do and that trickles into the way I dress as well. I love taking pieces that are out of the box and building a great outfit around them.
What are you wearing? The orange jacket I’m wearing is actually the inside lining of a workwear jacket. Under that I have on a cream colored long sleeve light sweater. My pants are hand printed, one of one workwear pants from my Paperweight brand. And for the shoes I went with some mahogany penny loafers. Includes a simple black belt and my gold African continent chain.
What articles of clothing do you repeatedly wear? I wear my Paperweight workwear pants a lot. I’m a big believer in making what you like so they’re my favorite pair of pants and I always try to dress them up and down to keep them in rotation.
How does your style fit into your way of life? It’s a reflection of who I am. I dress based on my energy for the day and for what I have to do. Today the sun was out and there was a cool breeze so I figured it was a summer / fall type of day, so I combined bright colors with fall colors to commemorate the changing seasons.
What’s your favorite season for fashion and why? I actually have a hot take of an answer here and it’s the summer. To me it’s easier to look great in the fall because there’s a lot to work with but in the summer you have less to work with so it’s more of a challenge to be stylish and I enjoy that challenge.
Who are your primary influences when it comes to fashion/style? My parents. My mother and father have always been very stylish. I sometimes look at old photos of them and realize how much I dress like them to this day. I’m also heavily inspired by Japanese and Korean style; they seem to always be ahead of the curve.

Gideon Mangan enjoys cruising in his ’63 Ford in style

Full name: Gideon Mangan
Age: 25
Where are you from and where do you live now? I’m from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and currently live in Plymouth.
Occupation: Construction/home renovations
Favorite hobby: My favorite hobby is probably driving my ‘63 Ford until it breaks, then fixing it. Rinse and repeat.
Describe your style for us. Hmm. I don’t know really. Like a kind of cowboy from the ‘60s maybe with some punk undertones, perhaps …
What are you wearing? From top to bottom, a CP knit ski mask and goggles I folded into a hat, a thermal long sleeve shirt under a Schott flannel. A genuine 1960s Wrangler denim jacket, Wrangler 13MWZ “cowboy cut” jeans and New Balance 550s.
What articles of clothing do you repeatedly wear? Definitely that jacket. It’s definitely one of my favorites.
How does your style fit into your way of life? I just like wearing cool, timeless clothes from days gone by. Not much else to it than that.
What’s your favorite season for fashion and why? Probably spring or fall. Weather’s not too hot, not too cold. Keeps things wide open for whatever you wanna wear, as long as it’s not a parka.
What are your primary influences when it comes to fashion/style? Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Paul Simonon of the Clash, and whatever The Who were wearing in the ’60s.

Joanna Silva-Jones: “An effervescent take on classic silhouettes”

Full Name: Joanna Silva-Jones
Age: Millennial
Where are you from and where do you live now? I am from New Bedford and I currently reside in New Bedford.
Occupation: I work as a customer service representative for Acushnet Company-FootJoy.
Favorite hobby: This year, I launched a website that incorporates photos of my favorite looks as well as blog posts where I write about what I’m reading, travel aspirations and trends. This has been occupying much of my spare time recently. I hope to grow Jorosijo into a brand that is both collaborative and inspirational. It’s still very new but I’m grateful and excited to share my voice.
Describe your style for us. My style as a catch phrase would be “An effervescent take on classic silhouettes.” If I were to elaborate, I would say that my personal style is bold in color, versatile to my destination, creative with layering and accessorizing.
What are you wearing?I’m wearing a dress from Ulla Johnson paired with a Ronny Kobo denim corset with a cozy Blank NYC jacket and Sam Edelman fringe boots. I styled this fit with a lattice wide belt from Amazon. The fringe collar necklace is from Shop Calico and all the gold rings are Sahira Jewelry from Shop Bejeweled. Collected from my travels are the bolo tie fromTexas and the earrings and turquoise ring from Madrid. The asymmetrical purse is Liffner and the scarves are from Lost Pattern NYC and the turquoise bead strand is from Petit Moments.
What articles of clothing do you repeatedly wear? The staples in my closet right now are:
Accessory — Lost Pattern NYC scarf. I have been using multiple ways from a purse handle embellishment to an ascot. So easy style every season.
Clothing — A light denim shirt from St. John’s Bay that was my dad’s. It’s a little oversized on me but it’s a great piece that easily transitions though the seasons because it can be styled multiple ways.
Footwear — My Veja sneakers because they are light weight and very comfortable. The silhouette of this sneaker is great as it pairs well with everything.
How does your style fit into your way of life? Personally, I have always used style as a creative outlet. I believe that style is a tool to convey oneself without speaking. Style is an integral part of my life because of how it ties into perception. Before I even speak you are conceptualizing who I am or what I represent. I use style as a way to shape my narrative.
What’s your favorite season for fashion and why? I have always loved summer. For me, you just can’t beat the longer days and gorgeous sunsets. In my opinion the beauty and emotion that summer evokes is unmatched to the other seasons. I have always been drawn to tropical patterns, vibrant colors and statement jewelry.
Who are your primary influences when it comes to fashion/style? I would first have to cite my father as my main influence in shaping this love I have for style. I believe growing up in a household with a dad who was well groomed and took pride in how he presented himself was very powerful. My father really had a way with color and finding pieces that worked together monochromatically especially with footwear. He was not afraid to take risks, and he always looked sharp.
Currently, If I’m in need of outfit or style inspiration, I will source content from stylists Law Roach and Jason Bolden. I look at the pages of Social Media influencers Antonia Fifi and Alpa Rama. I will search images of icons Diana Ross and Bianca Jagger. This combination of sources has worked really well for me. I’m sure I’ll continue to add to this list as I continually look for ways to refine my style.

Brianna Robinson’s style is always evolving

Full Name: Brianna Robinson
Age: 24
Where are you from and where do you live now? New Bedford born and raised!
Occupation: Hair artist
Favorite hobby: Reading, thrifting, singing songs in my car.
Describe your style for us. I think my style is constantly changing as I evolve into different versions of myself, so it’s hard to describe. I will say I love having a mix of masculine and feminine silhouettes.
What are you wearing? I am wearing my favorite pair of overalls that I thrifted from The Garment District in Boston. My coat I got on the clearance rack from Urban, along with my red Reeboks. Most of my jewelry was gifted from family and friends.
What articles of clothing do you repeatedly wear? My overalls are a repeat staple. I love a cool hat for when my hair isn’t cooperating and some glasses or sunnies for some drama.
How does your style fit into your way of life? I LOVE dressing up for work. When I style an outfit for work I feel like I’m putting on my confidence for the day. I still feel like I’m a kid just dressing up to play hair stylist and I feel really blessed for that.
What’s your favorite season for fashion and why? Summer! I love summer heels and long flowy skirts and dresses.
Who are your primary influences when it comes to fashion/style? In the beginning of my life, probably my grandmother. We would stay up late and watch Project Runway and she would quiz me to make sure I knew who all the designers were. Now I definitely get a lot of inspo from books and music. My favorite characters and singers influence my style a lot.

Occupation: I am an artist.
