▶︎ Internships at The Light

The New Bedford Light is a nonprofit, nonpartisan digital news outlet dedicated to community-based coverage of important local issues. We seek to inform and nourish the civic culture of New Bedford and surrounding towns by providing in-depth, fact-based journalism and a broad platform for diverse community voices.

In Summer 2026, The Light will offer an 8-week internship opportunity for local college and advanced high school students.

Interns will have the opportunity to contribute directly to The Light’s news coverage and will learn techniques and skills from professional journalists in New Bedford and the South Coast region. At the conclusion of the internship, interns will have improved their reporting and writing, made professional connections, and have a portfolio of clips.

The internship will begin the week of June 22, 2026 and conclude the week of August 14, 2026 (start/end dates can be flexible to accommodate academic calendars). Roughly 20 hours per week are required, and may vary from week-to-week depending on coverage assignments. Pay will be a stipend of $2,640.

The Light is committed to fostering a culture committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, both in our coverage and in our hiring. We encourage applications from student journalists who come from groups that have been historically underrepresented in news organizations.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, March 11.
