Movement at the Museum

Movement at the Museum returns April 14, 6 p.m., at NBAM, with dance, lectures, and workshops from modern to ballet.

Steven Vaughn leads this month’s free program, “Listen,” joined by Adrienne Silva, Aneshia Savino, and Amy Marie Burns. The performers respond to the exhibition Resistance: Cultural and Political Narratives in Mexican Art by interpreting the work through movement.

Saturday, April 18, 7 p.m.
THE SHEPHERD CENTER

Improvisational jazz with Nina Ott & Hum

Hum, a new quartet, will perform Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at The Shepherd Center. Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door.

The group features Nina Ott on organ and synthesizers, Steve Fell on guitar, John McKenna on saxophone and synthesizers, and Chris Lopes on drums and percussion.

Their sound is rooted in jazz. Performances mix original pieces with improvisation, including music by Thelonious Monk.

Electronic and acoustic sounds blend throughout. McKenna also uses playable sculptures he has built, adding a visual element.The group recently performed on WGBH’s JazzNow before a live audience.


Saturday, April 18, 7:30 p.m.
ZEITERION

NBSO: The Human Element

The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra will perform “The Human Element” on Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Zeiterion.

Tickets range from $30 to $80, plus fees.

Music Director Yaniv Dinur leads the program, featuring pianist Michel Camilo. The concert explores concepts of transformation through sound and culture.

The program opens with Missy Mazzoli’s River Rouge Transfiguration, inspired by Detroit’s industrial landscape. Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 follows, featuring a mix of intensity and lyricism.

Camilo closes the show with his Piano Concerto No. 1, performing his own work. The piece blends classical form with jazz and Afro-Caribbean influences.

Dig Deep Vinyl Bazaar

Dig Deep Vinyl Bazaar is on Sunday, April 19, at 3 p.m. at Rose Alley Ale House until the records run out. Browse more than 6,000 records. Fill a box and name your price, with about $1 per record suggested.

Live vinyl DJs from the Headroom Radio crew and friends will spin all afternoon.

Proceeds support 3rd Eye Youth Empowerment and its work creating an inclusive community space in New Bedford.
