WORD IS BOND: A Griot’s Tribute to Everett Hoagland

Gallery X will host “WORD IS BOND: A Griot’s Tribute to Everett Hoagland” on Thursday, August 14 at 5:30 p.m. The evening will honor Hoagland’s life through poetry, storytelling, and reflection.
Hoagland, who died on July 5 at 82, was New Bedford’s first Poet Laureate and a respected voice in American literature. He taught for more than 30 years at UMass Dartmouth and played a key role in the Black Arts Movement.
The event is curated by Mwalim, a former colleague and mentee. Local writers and artists including Charlie Perry, Maia Jaye Livramento, Rick Finneran, and others will share readings and tributes.
Admission is free. Seating is limited and early arrival is encouraged.
