Women of Truth and Courage: Special Screening at Acushnet Public Library

A special screening of “Women of Truth and Courage: The Widows of Kalangarai,” by filmmaker Karen Kayser, will be held on Monday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Acushnet Public Library.

For centuries, many widowed and abandoned women in India have faced social and cultural exclusion. This documentary follows Mrs. Manjula as she joins others in a movement that challenges long-standing ostracism. Their stories highlight resilience and efforts to shape change in their communities.

The film runs 22 minutes. A Q&A will follow.

It screened at the New Bedford Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Documentary Short and Best South Coast Filmmaker. It also screened at the India International Film Festival Boston and received the Best Documentary award.
