Wainer Woods Exhibition

Westport natives Merri Cyr and Chief Nij-Pajikwat-Mo`z (Chief Two Running Elk), also known as Robert Cox, are creating the town’s first sculpture of an Eastern Woodlands Indian. It will be installed at Wainer Woods Farm.
The exhibition previews the monument and shows the artists’ process. Photographs styled by Cyr and the Chief shaped the sculpture’s stance and mood. The final work will be a larger-than-life, 3D-printed bronze sculpture. Reproductions of ritual objects, researched and designed by the Chief, are also on display.
Chief Two Running Elk is a descendant of the Wainer and Cuffe families, who have owned the farm for more than 200 years. He plans to make Wainer Woods a community space and educational center. Artist residencies, a food forest, a seed-saving farm, and an orchard are part of the vision.
The exhibition runs Oct. 9–Nov. 23. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students.
