Two Powerful Musical Worlds Meet in A Joyous Sound at Zeiterion

New Bedford Symphony Orchestra presents “A Joyous Sound” at 7:30 p.m. on May 16 at Zeiterion.
Music director Yaniv Dinur leads a program that pairs a world premiere with a landmark symphony.
New Bedford native Pedro da Silva performs his Concerto for Portuguese Guitar and Orchestra. It is the first of its kind. The work blends classical form with Iberian influences and improvisation.
The concert also features Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. The piece builds to the “Ode to Joy” finale. It includes a 64-member orchestra, an 80-member chorus, and four soloists.
Guest artists include the Chorus of Westerly, Chelsea Basler Aston, Carrie Cheron, Matthew Anderson, and Thomas Cannon.
Pre-concert events begin before the show. A free open rehearsal runs from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on May 15 at the Zeiterion Auditorium. Tickets and details are available at nbsymphony.org.
