“The Airwaves Belonged to the People: WBCN and The American Revolution” returns to theaters May 30. Doors open at 7 p.m. Film starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25.
Newly re-released under an expanded title, the documentary tells the story of how Boston rock station WBCN became part of the cultural and political movements of the late 1960s and beyond. Topics include the anti-war movement, civil rights, women’s and LGBTQ rights, and countercultural media.
Featured appearances include members of the legendary WBCN staff and early radio interviews with David Bowie, Lou Reed, Jane Fonda, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Garcia, Bruce Springsteen, and Patti Smith.
Directed by Bill Lichtenstein, the film previously aired on PBS and received praise from The Boston Globe.
