Southcoast Jazz Festival

The MWALIM Trio headlines the SouthCoast Jazz Festival on Saturday, June 27 at 6 p.m. as part of Bristol Black Collective’s annual Juneteenth celebration.
The trio features MWALIM on vocals, guitar, and keys, joined by drummer and producer The ZYG 808 and bassist Richard Johnson. Their sound blends Blues, Soul, and jazz with a strong focus on improvisation.
MWALIM is known for his vocal range and storytelling style. He moves between gritty Blues and smooth jazz phrasing. His award-winning album “THUNDERCHILD” earned praise for its Blues, Soul, and Roots influences.
The ZYG 808 brings layered rhythms and groove-driven percussion, while Johnson provides a melodic bass foundation. Together, the group creates an expressive live performance rooted in Black musical traditions.
