South Coast Chamber Music Series: All Souls
The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra will present “All Souls” Oct. 31 at 3 p.m., featuring music that explores ghosts, war, and remembrance.
Charles Ives’ “Hallowe’en” opens the program, followed by Dmitri Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 3 in F Major and Johanna Senfter’s Piano Quartet in E minor. Shostakovich’s quartet moves from a playful opening through a ghostly waltz and musical battle to an elegy for those lost in World War II. Senfter, a student of composer Max Reger, remained largely unknown despite a prolific career. Her piano quartet closes the program.
Performers include EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks and Bryce Martin, violins; Christopher Nunn, viola; Leo Eguchi, cello; and Janice Weber, piano.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and are not available at the door. If the ticket page does not display a blue “BUY” button, the concert is sold out. A waitlist may be available; email asmith@nbsymphony.org by noon on the Friday before the concert.
