Scythe Book Launch Party at Davoll’s General Store

April 12 @ 6:00 pm

Davoll’s General Store plans a book launch for Mattapoisett poet Elizabeth Sylvia’s new collection, “Scythe,” on Sunday, April 12, at 6 p.m. The free event includes flowers and chamber music.

Published by River River Books of Durham, North Carolina, “Scythe” was selected from more than 400 entries. The collection reflects on cultivated gardens through a reimagining of Marie Antoinette and themes of luxury and privilege in the natural world. Poet Sara Moore Wagner describes it as a “brilliant juxtaposition of the past and present.”

Elizabeth Sylvia is a Mattapoisett poet and the author of “Scythe” (2026), “None But Witches” (2022) and “My Little Book of Domestic Anxieties” (2025). She has received fellowships from the New York Public Library, West Chester University Poetry Center and the Longleaf Writers Conference. She teaches English at Bourne High School.
