Scallopalooza Shucking Contest at the FHC

The first Scallopalooza shucking contest at FHC will be on AHA! Night, Thursday, August 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. This free celebration of the city’s scallop industry includes live music, local food, fishing gear demos, and a scallop shucking contest featuring 15 local fishermen.

Bethel Street closes to traffic at 1 p.m. for setup. The evening also features music by Immuter, dishes from Phoenix on the Fly, desserts from Sorbae, and an artist talk by Michael Medeiros. Industry vendors and fishing groups round out the event.

Scallopalooza is sponsored by the Sustainable Scalloping Fund and supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and more than 65 vessels from the New Bedford and Fairhaven fleets.
