Sam Grisman Project at Narrows

Sam Grisman is a bass player, bandleader, and devoted student of American acoustic music. He grew up in Mill Valley, California, in a home where influential recordings were often in progress. His father, legendary mandolinist, composer, and producer David Grisman, regularly invited friends into the family’s home studio for rehearsals and recording sessions.

Musicians such as Doc Watson, Jerry Garcia, John Hartford, Mike Seeger, and Tony Rice were frequent visitors and left a lasting impression on the younger Grisman. Those early experiences shaped his musical voice and inspired a lifelong commitment to making music with a close circle of talented collaborators.
