Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad

Celebrate Black History Month with a history lesson by the New Bedford Historical Society and local historians on New Bedford’s role in the Underground Railroad. The program will be held on the third floor of the New Bedford Public Library.
Presentations will explore the experiences of freedom seekers and the role city residents played in the Underground Railroad. An exhibit related to the topic will also be on view.
Dr. Timothy Walker, the editor of “Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad,” is the first presenter.
