New Bedford City Council meeting

The New Bedford City Council meets on Thursday, April 9, at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, Room 214.

Public hearings on Eversource work, including conduit and underground electric projects on Acushnet Avenue, Union Street, Ashley Boulevard, Nash Road, and Belleville Avenue, will be held.

Mayor Jon Mitchell submitted items on school funding, prior year payments, zoning changes, and board reappointments.

Agenda items include:

• $13.7 million loan for Gomes School upgrades
• Proposed COLA increase for retirees
• $2.2 million for Community Preservation Act projects
• Motion tied to 2026 FIFA World Cup tourism
• Livery license applications and renewals
• The consent agenda includes street closures, events, and utility petitions
