Holiday Tree Lightings

Each year, the City of New Bedford lights two holiday trees, one downtown in front of the Free Public Library and one at Clasky Common Park. Both events feature the New Bedford High School marching band and free hot cocoa.
Downtown festivities begin Saturday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m. A short parade leads the crowd to Pleasant Street in front of the library. This year’s theme is Dr. Seuss. The Grinch will roam through the crowd. Students from Taylor Elementary School created ornaments for the tree. Miss New Bedford and Miss Teen New Bedford lead a holiday sing-along. Community Services and New Life Southcoast provide hot cocoa.
Clasky Common hosts its tree lighting on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. Visitors can stroll through the park and view classic holiday decorations.
