Music at the Museum: Makam Healing Project
The Makam Healing Project will explore the centuries-old tradition of Turkish Ottoman modal music on Friday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. Historic melodies will be brought into a contemporary setting while contemplating how soundscapes and listening practices have changed over time.
Audience members can sing simple modal phrases as part of an interactive performance. The program is presented in dialogue with “Vanishing Ecologies: Speculative Futures.”
Performers are Volkan Efe on oud, kanun, tanbur, bendir, and voice; Theresa Thompson on violin, rebab, and bendir; and Mithat Yavuzarslan on ney, kemençe, and oud.
The performance is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the New Bedford Art Museum, 608 Pleasant St. Admission is free.
