Mending, Darning, and Patching — Oh My! repair workshop
March 31 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Fix It Forward workshop series opens with Mending, Darning, and Patching on Monday, March 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Howland Green Branch Library. The event is open to residents of New Bedford and Dartmouth.
Local artists Claudia De Sousa-Baptista (Bushwood Tailors Opportunity Shop) and Elaine and Beatrice Alder (Alder & Alder) will lead the session. Participants will learn basic repair skills such as replacing buttons, fixing zippers, and darning wool socks and sweaters. Attendees are encouraged to bring an item in need of repair.
A sewing and fabric arts supply swap will take place during the workshop. Donations can be dropped off beginning March 23 at the Howland Green, Wilks, Lawler, and Main library branches, or brought to the event. Visitors may browse and take materials for future projects.
To support continued home repairs, five sewing kits will be randomly given away to workshop participants, courtesy of the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District.
The workshop is presented with the New Bedford Free Public Library and the city’s Department of Community Services, with support from the Art is Everywhere grant through the Arts, Culture and Tourism Fund and New Bedford Creative.
