Melville Scholars’ Dinner & Lecture ft. conservation biologist and award-winning author Joe Roman, Ph.D.

New Bedford Whaling Museum will kick off its 30th annual Moby-Dick Marathon weekend with the Melville Scholars’ Dinner and Lecture on Jan. 2, 2026, in the Harbor View Gallery.
The special evening begins with a cocktail reception at 5:15 p.m., followed by remarks from museum president Amanda McMullen.
At 6:00 p.m., keynote speaker Joe Roman, Ph.D., conservation biologist and author, will present “Whales, Worlds, and the Wild Imagination: Lessons from Melville to Modern Ecology.”
Dinner and conversation follow at 6:45 p.m.
Roman is a fellow and writer in residence at the University of Vermont’s Gund Institute for Environment and the author of “Eat, Poop, Die: How Animals Make Our World.”
Tickets are $75 for members; $100 for nonmembers.
