Expressive Animals in Charcoal Workshop

Westport Art Group has opened registration for fall classes at westportartgroup.com. Class sizes are limited.

Artist Catherine Hafer, AAPL, will lead two October programs. “Expressive Animals in Charcoal” runs Oct. 4–5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The two-day workshop teaches a painterly approach to charcoal using a variety of tools and techniques. Students may bring a photo of their pet or use provided references. Instructor demos and individual feedback are included. The fee is $156 with a maximum of 14 students. WAG members receive a 20 percent discount.

She will also teach “Successful Portrait Painting,” a three-session class beginning Oct. 21. The program introduces the grisaille technique to create expressive portraits with depth and emotion.

Hafer is an award-winning artist based in Westport and Pennsylvania. Her work is in private collections and museums. She has received the Grumbacher Gold Medallion and recently won the Almenara Award at the American League’s Grand National Exhibition.
