Drill Conductor Certification at SMAST West

The second day of training builds on the Safety and Survival Class with lessons in cold-water survival, helicopter rescues, vessel stability, liability, and emergency procedures. Participants work with U.S. Coast Guard-certified instructors to apply these skills on their own vessels. Training includes creating an emergency station bill and leading monthly onboard safety drills with crew.

Fishermen who complete both days earn Alaska Marine Safety Education Association Drill Conductor Certification, which meets U.S. Coast Guard requirements under 46 CFR 28.270(c).
