City Public Safety & Neighborhood Committee meeting

NEW BEDFORD — The city’s Public Safety & Neighborhood Committee will meet on Tuesday, Aug.

On the agenda:

• A motion from Councilor Gomes requesting an amendment to the Home Rule Petition on appointing Special Police Officers, changing the age limit so retired officers over 65 can work details until age 70, after which they must be terminated. Referred to the mayor, police chief, state delegation, and Public Safety & Neighborhoods Committee.
• A motion from Councilors Oliver, Morad, Abreu, Lopes, Baptiste, Giesta, Carney, and Gomes requesting a meeting with city officials to review policies and ordinances on unregistered or abandoned campers, RVs, boats, and trailers, and to develop faster removal and cleanup measures to improve safety and city appearance.
