Chris Cooper Joins The History of Sound Discussion
August 6 @ 6:00 pm

Academy Award winner Chris Cooper will join author Ben Shattuck and GBH Executive Arts Editor Jared Bowen for a post-screening discussion of The History of Sound Thursday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25.
Cooper appears in the film as the older Lionel Worthing. Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor star in the production based on Shattuck’s 2024 story collection. It follows two young men who meet at the New England Conservatory of Music in 1917 and later travel through rural Maine recording folk songs.
The film was an official selection at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Bowen will moderate a conversation about the film and Shattuck’s adaptation of his work for the screen.
Spinner Publications will also welcome Shattuck on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Wamsutta Club. He will discuss “The History of Sound: Stories” and the process behind the collection that inspired the film.
