Cape Verdean Independence and the Making of a Nation

October 1, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Continuing the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cape Verde’s independence, the New Bedford Whaling Museum will host a Zoom lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at noon.

Cape Verdean Independence and the Making of a Nation will look at acts of revolution under the PAIGC in the 1950s through 1970s and consider the legacies of independence today.

The roundtable features Angelo Barbosa, Carlos Almeida, and Inês Brito, and will be moderated by Naomi Slipp, the museum’s Douglas and Cynthia Crocker Endowed Chair and chief curator. The program is part of an ongoing series.
