Cape Verdean Identity in Contemporary Art

A virtual conversation on Cape Verdean identity in contemporary art will take place Oct. 22 from noon to 1 p.m. Eastern. The free program on Zoom features artists and scholars Sandim Mendes, Christian Gonçalves, and Claire Andrade-Watkins. Ymelda Rivera Laxton, assistant curator of contemporary art and community projects at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, will moderate.
The discussion will explore how Cape Verdean and intersectional identities are expressed across different art forms. The event is presented in connection with the museum’s Cape Verdean Contemporary project.
