Dolin is the author of 17 books, including Leviathan: “The History of Whaling in America,” “A Furious Sky: The Five-Hundred-Year History of America’s Hurricanes,” and “Black Flags, Blue Waters: The Epic History of America’s Most Notorious Pirates.” His work has received numerous honors, including the John Lyman Award for U.S. Maritime History and the Samuel Eliot Morison Book Award for Naval Literature. Dolin lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
“In Rebels at Sea,” Dolin examines the role of privateers during the American Revolutionary War. The book highlights privately owned vessels that attacked British shipping across the Atlantic and along American coasts. Dolin argues these freelance sailors played a critical role in weakening British forces and shaping the outcome of the war.
