April School Vacation Week: Our Shared Planet runs April 20–24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
Each day features themed activities, crafts, and story times focused on the ocean and environment. Guests can tour the entire museum, including the sand table, whale skeletons, Kid’s Corner, the Lagoda, and more.
Daily highlights:
- Aquarium feedings and animal introductions at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
- Get creative with make-and-take crafts from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Storytimes at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
- Hands-on activities from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
- Costume parade at 3 p.m.
The 3D film “Wonders of the Arctic” will play throughout the day.
An inflatable whale is available on select days.
Squid dissection from 11 a.m. to noon. with pre-registration required.
- Daily themes:
Monday: Ocean explorers and the deep sea - Tuesday: Whales, fisheries, and ocean food webs
- Wednesday: Ocean weather and climate, with an Earth Day focus
- Thursday: Coastal creatures and habitats
- Friday: Ocean conservation and solutions, marking Massachusetts Right Whale Day
