Appointments and Briefings Committee meeting

New Bedford’s Appointments and Briefings Committee will meet on Tuesday, July 21, at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 133 William St. The meeting will be livestreamed and recorded.
Agenda highlights:
Committee members will hold a public hearing on the proposed demolition of the Coffin-Howland House at 535 Brock Ave. The New Bedford Historical Commission determined that the circa 1840 to 1854 structure is historically significant but not a building that should be preserved. Officials will discuss the demolition review and related site plans.

The committee will also review Mayor Jon Mitchell’s appointment of Justin Ohlson to the Water Board. Ohlson would replace the late Patrick E. Rogers, whose term is set to expire in April 2027.
Members are expected to discuss a motion requesting representatives from Republic Waste Services, E.L. Harvey, and Waste Management to attend a future meeting to address alleged violations of city waste collection and disposal regulations.
The agenda also includes citizen input time, with Chris Lamontagne scheduled to speak on a public petition and call for the resignation of Mayor Jon Mitchell.
