Appointments and Briefings Committee meeting

New Bedford’s Appointments and Briefings Committee will meet on Tuesday, May 19, at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting will be livestreamed and recorded.
Agenda highlights:
Committee members are expected to discuss Mayor Jon Mitchell’s appointment of Cristobal Jose Escobar to the Veterans Advisory Board. Escobar would fill the seat left vacant by Christopher Holkamp’s resignation. The term expires in December 2026.
Members will also revisit discussions about odor concerns in the South End tied to the city’s sewage treatment facility on South Rodney French Boulevard. Officials are expected to discuss the possibility of hiring a company to conduct an odor analysis and provide costs, timelines, and study data.
Another agenda item calls for airport officials and the city’s conservation agent to review possible locations for a new hangar at New Bedford Regional Airport. Councilors are requesting that construction plans be paused until more options are reviewed.
