32nd Annual Buzzards Bay Swim raises funds for clean water

 Swim for clean water at the 32nd Annual Buzzards Bay Swim, featuring a spectacular open-water course across outer New Bedford Harbor. The swim benefits the Buzzards Bay Coalition, a nonprofit that works to protect clean water in the region.

The swim is a scenic point-to-point open water swim across outer New Bedford Harbor. Starting from Cisco Beach in New Bedford,  swimmers navigate 1.2 miles through the harbor and channel, before reaching the finish at Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven.  At the finish, swimmers are welcomed with a beach party.

The registration fee of $30 and $300 fundraising minimum ($150 for youth) includes parking, shuttle service, bag check, swim cap, chip timing, snacks, breakfast, beverages, event t-shirt, live music, awards, prizes, and a custom-made bronze finisher’s medal.

Qualifications apply. Special rates available for youth teams and lifeguards.  Registration is open here.

Volunteers are also being sought.  They are needed at the start and finish lines. Shift times vary.  Tasks include:

  • Swimmer check-in
  • Distribution of swim caps and timing chips
  • Kayak inspection
  • Kayakers for the Safety Squad
  • Kayakers to escort swimmers
  • Set up/break down
  • Staffing of hospitality tents
  • Parking
  • People flow
  • Photographers
  • Lifeguards, registered nurses, EMTs
