2025 Food Summit to Spotlight Coastal Wastewater Legislation and Aquaculture Resilience

The Marion Institute’s Southcoast Food Policy Council’s annual Food Summit at UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science & Technology is on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, from 2:00–3:30 p.m. The focus is on wastewater infrastructure, public health, and impacts on the aquaculture industry.

Highlighting Bill H1000/S638, the event focuses on the establishment of a Coastal Waters Wastewater Financing Committee. This committee would address issues related to nitrogen pollution and the need to update outdated sewer systems affecting coastal communities and shellfish harvesters.

Speakers include municipal leaders, aquaculture experts, and representatives from Sen. Montigny’s and Reps. Markey and Sylvia’s offices.
