Mayor Jon Mitchell’s State of the City speech was the first topic as New Bedford Light columnist Jack Spillane joined Jim Phillips on WBSM’s Townsquare Sunday. They discussed a proposal to implement a 3-1-1 system for requesting city services, such as road repairs, the city council’s inability to override the Mayor’s veto of three nonbinding ballot questions and the future of Councilor Shane Burgo’s rent stabilization proposal.
Then they turned their attention to the school district, which approved a contract with the paraprofessional union, the IRS going after fishermen in New England and the investigation into a fire at the former Hawthorne Country Club.
