Chuck Prophet and His Cumbia Shoes at Narrows

Chuck Prophet and His Cumbia Shoes hit the stage on Friday, March 27, at 8 p.m. at the Narrows. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45 in advance and $47 the day of the show.
Prophet recently returned to touring after treatment for stage four lymphoma. Music played a central role during his illness and recovery.
His new album, “Wake the Dead,” was recorded with the band ¿Qiensave?. The release draws on the rhythms and traditions of cumbia music. Songs blend cumbia with elements of rock, punk, surf, and soul.
Prophet first gained attention with the neo-psychedelic band Green on Red before launching a solo career in 1990. Since then, he has released more than a dozen albums and earned praise from outlets including Rolling Stone and NPR. His songs have also been recorded by artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Solomon Burke, and Heart.
