Bettye LaVette at Narrows

Bettye LaVette is back on Saturday, March 21, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $55 in advance and $57 the day of the show.
The show is an intimate set with keyboardist Etienne Stadwijk and features songs and stories from throughout LaVette’s long career.
Her career began in Detroit in 1962 at age 16. The debut single, “My Man-He’s a Lovin’ Man,” was released by Atlantic Records. She later appeared in the Broadway musical Bubbling Brown Sugar with Honu Coles and Cab Calloway.
A resurgence in 2000 brought renewed recognition. Honors include the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation, several Blues Music Awards, and seven Grammy Award nominations.
Now in her 80s and more than 60 years into her career in show business, LaVette continues to perform and record. She is known for distinctive interpretations of songs across genres.
