Mapping Urban Renewal with Alex Houston

Join Alex Houston, the newest Artist-in-Residence at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, for an evening at the Fishing Heritage Center. Alex is using textile art to explore New Bedford’s history, focusing on the dramatic urban renewal changes of the 1960s and 70s.
The work highlights demolished homes, displaced families, and highway construction. The quilt will be on display in the park’s art gallery through January 10, 2026
