Join New Bedford Light housing reporter Grace Ferguson, local officials and advocates for a moderated discussion and Q&A about housing in the Greater New Bedford area.
The event will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3 at the New Bedford Public Library, Main Branch, 613 Pleasant St., in downtown New Bedford.

High income/value cities restrict housing with zoning and putting land into conservation ie Belmont, Lincoln,Lexington. A paper at the Lincoln Filene Center 1970s, now the Tisch Center at Tufts said it was cost effective for a town to borrow money to purchase a single family lot than to allow a home to be built.
Housing has been a constant problem with availability and especially now with affordability. The discussion regarding building costs and zoning continue and there appears to be no end in sight. My primary concern is multi-families. We have 2 classes of home ownership of multi-families. One is an investor driven model and the second is a home ownership model. Both should be closely analyzed so we can develop proper data to accomplish a means to an end that will enhance affordability of housing. What other towns and cities do at this point is not of concern, New Bedford should be at the forefront to develop successful planning to help our citizens. I am not sure the current environment is ready to make the changes necessary for our community.
