Scrimshaw — Learn this Local Art

Learn the basics of scrimshaw in this workshop inspired by local maritime history. Participants practice pin-carved scrimshaw using cow bone, a legal and beginner-friendly material.
The class starts with simple practice on polymer ovals, then moves to a finished piece on bone. Designs are provided, and small original designs may be brought. All materials are included.
Sessions are on Thursday, Jan. 29, or Thursday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at the New Bedford Arts and Cultural Emporium, Kilburn Mill, Studio 260.
The fee is $45.
