Moby-Dick Virtual Book Club

November 18, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The New Bedford Whaling Museum will host its first virtual Moby-Dick Book Club this fall. The free three-part series is moderated by assistant curator Marina Wells. It will feature discussions with seven nationally recognized Melville scholars.

Sessions run on the third Tuesday of September, October, and November 2025, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. They are designed to prepare readers for the museum’s 30th Moby-Dick reading marathon in January 2026.

Each session focuses on a theme. Suggested readings will be provided. Participants are encouraged to read at their own pace and bring questions and reflections to share. Registration is required at whalingmuseum.org.

Schedule:

Sept. 16: Extracts to Chapter 47 – Making Meaning in Moby-Dick with Tony McGowan and Tim Marr

Oct. 21: Chapter 48 to 95 – Race, Nation, and Representation with Bob Wallace and Wyn Kelley

Nov. 18: Chapter 96 to Epilogue – Melville and the Ocean with Mary Bercaw Edwards and Jennifer Baker
