SUMMARY:Mending\, Darning\, and Patching – Oh My! workshop
DESCRIPTION:A free workshop on clothing repair will be held on Tuesday\, March 31\, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Howland Green Branch Library. \nLocal artists Claudia De Sousa-Baptista of Bushwood Tailors Opportunity Shop and Elaine and Beatrice Alder of Alder & Alder will teach slow stitching\, also called visible mending. Students can learn to replace buttons\, fix zippers\, and darn socks or sweaters. Attendees are encouraged to bring an item to repair. \nA sewing and fabric arts swap will also take place during the event. Donations of yarn\, thread\, buttons\, fabric\, and sewing tools can be dropped off starting March 23 at several New Bedford library branches or brought on the day of the workshop. \nThe event is part of the Fix It Forward workshop series\, which encourages residents to repair and reuse everyday items. Admission is free.

SUMMARY:2026 Annual New Bedford Half Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The New Bedford Half Marathon welcomes thousands of runners from all around on Sunday\, March 15\, at 11 am. The 13.1-mile race is one of the oldest half-marathon events in the Northeast and draws thousands each year. \nRunners follow a single loop through New Bedford streets\, with views of the harbor and Clarks Cove. The paved route includes a few hills\, with notable climbs at miles 3 and 12. \nRegistration is open for adults\, youth\, and runners age 65 and older. Fees vary by age group and registration period\, with adult registration currently just over $100 and youth registration set at $54.50. \nThe race is organized by a volunteer committee and hosted by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick\, with support from the City of New Bedford.

SUMMARY:Holiday Recycling in New Bedford
DESCRIPTION:Live Christmas trees will be collected in New Bedford from Jan. 12 through Jan. 16. During that week only\, residents may place trees at the curb by 7 a.m. on the weekday after regular trash and recycling pickup. Routes with Friday collection will have trees picked up on Monday\, Jan. 16. \nTrees may also be dropped off starting Dec. 26 at several locations. The E. Rodney French Boulevard beach parking lot between Hudson Street and Seymour Street accepts trees through Jan. 11. Brooklawn Community Center\, 1997 Acushnet Ave.\, accepts trees in the rear parking lot through Jan. 11. The Recycling Center at 1103 Shawmut Ave. is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday\, Wednesday\, and Friday\, and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
