DESCRIPTION:In recognition of the 50th anniversary of Cape Verdean independence in 2025\, the New Bedford Whaling Museum presents Morabeza: Cape Verdean Community in the South Coast. The exhibition is part of the Contemporary Cape Verdean 2025 project and explores the Cape Verdean and Cape Verdean American experience through contemporary art and community storytelling. \nHosted in the San Francisco Gallery\, next to the museum’s permanent Cape Verdean exhibit\, the display features oral histories\, music\, photographs\, and personal items from individuals and community organizations across the South Coast\, Rhode Island\, and Cape Cod. It highlights the region’s cultural ties to Cabo Verde and the ongoing presence of Cape Verdean traditions in New England.

I Return With a Feeling of Us brings together a wide range of his personal and commercial work—including deeply felt observations of racial injustice and economic inequities\, innovative fashion photography that helped redefine African-American aesthetics and representation\, and masterful\, revelatory portraits of celebrities and fellow creatives for which he is best known.

SUMMARY:2025 Indoor Mural Slam
DESCRIPTION:Artists and non-artists are welcome to apply to paint two indoor murals at the Kilburn Mill. Each winning mural will receive $1\,500. The original murals\, at least 6 by 8 feet\, will be painted over the weekend of October 24 through 26. \nSketch submissions will be accepted from September 15 through October 15. Winners will be selected by a panel of professional judges on October 17. Submissions and the event are free to enter. \nAn opening reception to view the murals and meet the artists will be held on November 8.
