SUMMARY:New Bedford Science Café
DESCRIPTION:New Bedford Science Café is scheduled for Tuesday\, Feb. 3\, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Last Round Bar and Grille.\n\nEngineer Richard Riels will discuss ropeless lobster traps and new tools designed to protect marine mammals while supporting fishing communities. Focus remains on reducing whale entanglements caused by traditional rope systems.\n\nRiels serves as executive director of the Sea Mammal Education Learning Technology Society. Low numbers of North Atlantic right whales continue to place pressure on lobster fisheries.\n\nDuring the presentation\, Riels will demonstrate the SMELTS line-free Lift Raft system. The device rests on the seafloor until an acoustic signal triggers its rise to the surface. Hundreds are already in use.\n\nFree parking is available behind the building.\n\nMore information and recent event videos are available at newbedfordsciencecafe.weebly.com.

SUMMARY:76 Days Adrift – Film Screening & Q&A with Executive Producer Robert Sennott
DESCRIPTION:From Academy Award–winning Executive Producer Ang Lee comes 76 Days Adrift—a gripping\, immersive documentary that tells the extraordinary survival story of Steven Callahan\, author of the New York Times bestseller Adrift: 76 Days Lost at Sea. \nOn the night of February 4\, 1982\, Callahan’s small vessel collided with a whale in the Atlantic Ocean. With only moments to react\, he escaped into a life raft with a basic survival kit—plunging into what would become 76 harrowing days alone at sea. Battling storms\, dwindling supplies\, and the vast\, unforgiving ocean\, Callahan was forced to confront both nature’s fury and his own deepest fears. \nDirected by Joe Wein with a haunting score by Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy)\, 76 Days Adrift is not only a survival story but also a meditation on human resilience and our profound connection to the sea. \nFilm Run Time: 95 minutes. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Executive Producer Robert Sennott\, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this powerful documentary.

SUMMARY:MOMIX: Alice at The Zeiterion
DESCRIPTION:MOMIX brings its latest production to the Zeiterion stage on Thursday\, Feb. 5\, at 7:30 p.m. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland\, the show blends illusion\, acrobatics\, magic\, and playful surprise in a style that is unmistakably MOMIX. \nThe story follows Alice as she tumbles down the rabbit hole and meets familiar characters\, including the Caterpillar\, the White Rabbit\, and the Queen of Hearts. Dancers stretch\, bend\, and transform using props\, ropes\, and one another. Bodies grow\, shrink\, and shift in ways that keep the eye guessing. \nVisuals are bold and inventive. Movement feels strange\, funny\, and sometimes otherworldly. Nothing appears quite as it seems\, and that sense of discovery drives the evening. \nTickets range from $29 to $59\, plus fees. Performance may not be appropriate for young children.
