Wall pieces must be ready to hang. Electronic items and household appliances\, including toasters\, microwaves\, and other plug-in devices\, are not accepted at this time. \nHow it works: \n• All items are free to take.\n• Donations are limited to three items per day and must be approved by a Recycling Center attendant before being dropped off.\n• Items must be clean\, functional\, and in a condition you’d be proud to give—or pleased to receive.\n• The city reserves the right to refuse any item for any reason\, regardless of condition or category. SUMMARY:Homeschool Day at the Whaling Museum
DESCRIPTION:Homeschool families are invited to Homeschool Day on Tuesday\, March 31\, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Activities focus on art\, history\, science\, and culture. \nDiscounted admission is $10 for students ages 4 to 18 and $12 for adults. Children under 3 are free. General admission includes the Kid’s Corner\, Interactive Topographic Sand Table\, Inflatable Whale\, and access to the Lagoda Whaling Ship lower deck. \nA hands-on Squid Dissection Workshop will be offered at 9:45 a.m.\, 11:30 a.m.\, and 1:30 p.m. The session costs $7 per student and is recommended for ages 8 and older. Space is limited. \nVisitors can also add the 25-minute 3D film Wonders of the Arctic for $4 per person\, with showings throughout the day. \nDrop-in activities\, story times\, and guided tours will will be available across the museum. Visitors may bring their own lunch to enjoy in the Harbor View Gallery. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Tracing Light: Cameraless Photography runs Jan. 30 through March 31\, at the UMass Dartmouth CVPA Campus Gallery. \nAn opening reception is on Tuesday\, Feb. 3\, from 5 to 7 p.m. An artist talk follows at 5:30 p.m. A snow date is set for Feb. 4. \nThe closing reception is scheduled for Tuesday\, March 31\, from 5 to 7 p.m. The artist will be present. All events are free and open to the public. \nAnne Arden McDonald creates images without a camera or a negative. She works directly on photographic paper using light\, chemistry\, and experimental materials. Processes draw on historical methods such as photograms while pushing into new territory. \nThe exhibition explores circles and spheres as symbols of atoms\, planets\, growth\, and wholeness. Works include large-scale cameraless scrolls\, rust-and-bubble experiments\, ceramic glazes\, and a video offering a behind-the-scenes look at her process. \nGallery hours are Monday through Friday\, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays stay open until 7 p.m. Saturday hours are noon to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed Feb. 16 and March 14 through 21.

Attendees are encouraged to bring an item to repair. \nA sewing and fabric arts swap will also take place during the event. Donations of yarn\, thread\, buttons\, fabric\, and sewing tools can be dropped off starting March 23 at several New Bedford library branches or brought on the day of the workshop. \nThe event is part of the Fix It Forward workshop series\, which encourages residents to repair and reuse everyday items. Admission is free.

Personal ideas and creative approaches with clay are encouraged.\n\nSessions meet once a week for four weeks: March 17\, March 24\, March 31\, and April 7.\n\nFee is $189 for members and $210 for nonmembers. SUMMARY:Black Theater with Community Workshop in New Bedford
DESCRIPTION:Oversoul Theatre Collective Inc.\, in partnership with 3rd Eye Unlimited\, is reviving community-based Black theater in New Bedford through Griot’s Corner\, a weekly workshop led by playwright and arts educator Mwalim. Actors\, spoken-word artists\, musicians\, and dancers from the city’s Black and Brown communities are invited to help form a new ensemble centered on cultural storytelling.\n\nProgram reconnects with “The Studio\,” a youth theater initiative launched in 1997 that helped mentor a generation of local artists. Oversoul’s roots trace to Boston’s New African Company\, founded in 1968\, and to a broader tradition of Black performance in the United States.\n\nWorkshops focus on improvisation and collaboration\, with participants developing an original piece to be presented in May.\n\nSessions are held on Tuesdays from 8 to 10 p.m.\, Feb. 10 through May 5\, at 3rd Eye Unlimited\, 230 Union St.\n\nParticipants should bring a notebook and wear comfortable clothing and sneakers.

It is open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The pantry is located outside the building on the corner of Pleasant and Middle streets. \nGroceries are available to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Hundreds of people are served each month. Program volunteers also help stock shelves and assist with distribution.
