SUMMARY:Remembrance and Blessing of the Fleet
DESCRIPTION:The New Bedford Port Society will hold its annual Memorial Day service on Monday\, May 25. A procession begins at 9:30 a.m. at the historic Seamen’s Bethel and continues to the waterfront for a 10 a.m. ceremony at Pier 3. \nThe remembrance is held along the historic New Bedford waterfront. It honors veterans\, members of the nautical community\, and all who sacrificed in service to the country. Veterans\, families\, and visitors gather each year for remembrance and reflection. \nMusic\, readings\, and a moment of silence are part of the program\, which recognizes all branches of the armed forces and New Bedford’s deep ties to the sea. Attendees are asked to arrive early to explore the Bethel and its nearly two centuries of maritime history. \nIn case of rain\, the service will move indoors to the Seamen’s Bethel. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Hundreds of people are served each month. Program volunteers also help stock shelves and assist with distribution. DESCRIPTION:Ink & Identity: Printmaking with Adrian Tió is scheduled for Wednesdays\, May 27 to June 17  from 5 to 8 p.m. The fee is $250. \nMaster printmaker Adrian Tió leads the four-week workshop. He’s a retired fine arts professor with more than 50 years of experience. Tió’s work is displayed in major collections\, including the Andy Warhol Foundation and the White House. \nClass work draws inspiration from the exhibition “RESISTANCE: Cultural and Political Narratives in Mexican Art.” It looks at how artists use printmaking to explore identity\, memory\, and social ideas. \nStudents will create designs by carving linoleum blocks and printing them. The work will come together in a final group composition. \nThe workshop is open to beginners and practicing artists. No experience is required.
