SUMMARY:Weekly Targeted Ground Spraying for Mosquitoes
DESCRIPTION:Weekly mosquito spraying in New Bedford begins June 11 and continues through September. Spraying will be done on Thursdays between 2 a.m. and sunrise\, weather permitting.\n\nCrews will target parks and public event spaces\, including Buttonwood Park\, Brooklawn Park\, Fort Taber\, and several downtown locations.\n\nResidents near spray areas may want to close windows overnight before scheduled treatments. Rain or holidays may shift spraying to Friday mornings.\n\nSpraying can also be requested for private property through the Bristol County Mosquito Control Project between June and September.\n\nHealth officials recommend using insect repellent\, wearing long sleeves outdoors at dusk\, and draining standing water around homes to help reduce mosquito activity.

SUMMARY:Opening reception for Vanishing Ecologies: Speculative Futures exhibit
DESCRIPTION:NEW BEDFORD — The New Bedford Art Museum hosts an opening reception for a new exhibit\,  Vanishing Ecologies: Speculative Futures\, which explores artistic responses to the Anthropocene — the era in which human activity has reshaped the planet — and imagines what might follow it. \nThrough painting\, sculpture\, installation\, and time-based media\, artists confront climate change\, mass extinction\, and the lingering shadow of the post-atomic age\, while probing the accelerating entanglement of technology and time. \nSome works trace the fragile thresholds between collapse and adaptation; others speculate on post-human futures\, ecological resilience\, and planetary memory. Together\, the visions ask how we narrate an ending that is also a beginning\, inviting viewers to consider their place within deep time and the uncertain worlds still unfolding. \nThe reception is free.
